Sunday’s Message: “Less Is More”

Being poor has little to recommend it. Anybody who tells you that its wonderful to be poor — really poor — has obviously not seen what destitution will do to people. The Bible tells us to “remember the poor,” financially speaking, so God, too, views poverty as an affliction. However, Jesus brought up the subject of “spiritual poverty” in the first of the Beatitudes, his opening section of the “Sermon On the Mount.” Unlike material poverty, realization of one’s spiritual poverty seems to be not only a good thing, but a prerequisite for truly knowing God.
